Earthster 2: Semantic Web based Life Cycle Assessment

Earthster is a long running project of New Earth which has a vision of using Linked Open Data to publish and share Lifecycle Assessment Data both publicly on the web and privately within supply chains.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a rapidly evolving field which aims to provide quantitative and qualitative assessments of the environmental, social and economic effects of providing products and services. Armed with such assessments consumers, manufacturers and service providers will be informed about the susainability implications of choices and decisions they make.

Unfortunately, LCA data is processed by proprietary tools using incompatible data representations.  This significantly increases the costs and reduces the quality of shared LCA data.

New Earth have commisioned Epimorphics to advise on how to develop a Linked Open Data solution for publishing LCA data and to implement some of the key technology components.
