As you say it is fairly specific to the University setting. It shouldn't be too hard to do a version which linked to org. After all org is kind of an upper ontology for organizational structure and each setting, such as a University Dept, will need to instantiate and extend it. You may also want to look at the AIISO ontology that Damian mentioned on the public-lod list in response to org, though you are probably already aware of that.
