Semantic data exchange

Governments are increasingly publishing public sector data to empower citizens, enhance transparency and drive economic development. As the range and quantity of data sources increases, users face challenges of locating the appropriate raw information sources, combining and analyzing data, and preserving meaning and accuracy, in the context of their particular applications.

The Semantic Data Exchange was a feasibility study, funded by the Technology Stategy Board, into an infrastructure to support and enhance the web of public sector data. It was aimed at discovery of datasets combined with a web-based workbench to enable combination, exploration and visualization of data sets. For citizens, companies, third sector organizations and government users it could provide a tool to enable evidence-based insights that can guide the development of ideas for personal and community initiatives, evidence-based policy formation and effective strategic and other planning.
