Semtech exhibition

We had a great time at the Semantic Technologies Business Conference in London last week. Many good conversations with people throughout the two days, and lots to follow up on.

It was very rewarding to see how some of the things we’ve been involved in have been taken up and used. The Data Cube came up several times. Our own presentation on it seemed to do down well. Really pleased that Mark Birbeck and John Griffin have found it useful in their work on visualizing NHS datasets. I think there’s lots of opportunities for visualization and analysis tools around Linked Data Cubes, should try to define some common approaches so that tools can interoperate.

There were also several mentions of our Organization ontology, good to see that continuing to get some attention.

Thanks to John Sheridan and Jeni Tennison for who mentioned using both of these in their excellent presentation on the UK Government Organograms publication!

It has been a while since I’ve manned an exhibition stand, hard work but definitely worthwhile. Good to show some of our complete case studies such as the work with the Environment Agency. That’s a nice end to end story – everything from modelling and publication through to visualizations and applications, building on our publication platform and our open source tools.

As part of the stand we had a slide loop summarizing our services. A couple of people asked if we could put those slides up somewhere they could be seen at leisure. In fulfilment of that promise the exhibition slides are now on slide share: Epimorphics exhibition slide show
