FSA Food Alerts are the primary mechanism by which the public and others are alerted that food products are recalled because of allergen related or other issues. While users can sign up via the FSA website to be sent alerts by e-mail or SMS, the alerts information is also required and used by other organisations, for example allergy charities, such as Allergy UK and Anaphylaxis UK and other application developers including Mobile App developers and those wishing to monitor food alerts and recalls in support of the food industry.
We worked with the FSA to develop the Food Alerts API that provides programmatic access to current and recent Food Alerts:
- Allergy Alerts (AA)
- Product Recall Information Notices (PRIN)
- and Food Alerts for Action (FAFA)
It provides applications with the facility to list alerts matching some filter criterion, and to retrieve a description of an alert.
The data is available in standard formats including, JSON, CSV and HTML. Details of the API can be found at: https://data.food.gov.uk/food-alerts/ui/reference
