new Environment Agency Rainfall Data and API goes live

The Environment Agency is now publishing readings from rainfall gauges around England, alongside their existing linked-data API for real-time river levels and flood monitoring.

This new service can be found here: https://environment.data.gov.uk/flood-monitoring/doc/rainfall

The service will include current and recent historical data from these gauges and is available free-of-charge under the Open Government License, via the API.

We have also built a Rainfall API demonstrator application. This application illustrates the incorporation of data from the rainfall gauge API into a simple JavaScript web application. The open source for the demonstration application is available from GitHub.

For more info on the service see the Environment Agency data team’s post on the Defra digital blog

This is one of many new services that we have been helping public sector organisations ready over the last few months and we hope to be highlighting more of these soon.  For examples of our work take a look at our Live Projects page or our other news items and articles.
